Neal Thompson is Director of Author and Publishing Relations at Amazon, where he oversees the Amazon Literary Partnership (grant funding for authors and literary organizations) and outreach to the writing community. Neal is a former journalist and the author of four nonfiction books, including A Curious Man: The Strange & Brilliant Life of Robert ‘Believe It or Not’ Ripley (a PEN Center USA Literary Award finalist in nonfiction) and Driving with the Devil: Southern Moonshine, Detroit Wheels and the Birth of NASCAR. Neal has appeared on NPR, PBS, The Daily Show, CNN, The History Channel, ESPN, and more, and his stories have appeared in Outside, Esquire, Men’s Health, and Sports Illustrated. He previously taught creative nonfiction at the University of North Carolina’s Great Smokies Writing Program. Neal joined Amazon in 2011, and has managed Amazon’s Best Books of the Month program and helped launch the Amazon Book Review blog. His next book, Kick-Flip Boys — a memoir about skateboarding, pot, and the chaos of parenthood – will be published by Ecco in 2018.
